Cappadocia is the name of the area located on 300 kms south of Ankara, which includes Nevsehir, Kayseri, Nigde and Aksaray. . This region is 100 km2s wide and in the middle of  the area Urgup and Goreme rests.

Due to the vastness of the area, in whichever hotel you stay, you need a car or you can participate in tours from the hotels. 

Ayvali village is located in the 12 km south-east of Urgup county and its neighbors are Mustafapasa (Sinasos) on the North, Cemil Village on the east and Bahçeli village on the west. Its  population is around 1200 people

TOURISM

Ayvali Village was ed as the sample village of Cappadocia by the Ministry of Tourism.

Gamirasu Hotel and Restaurant is available for touristic accommodation in the village and local foods can be found at 4 Aravan Evi restaurant. 

Baloon Tours, horse tours, jeep safari and a tour around the region can be arranged.

The people of the village, living in rock houses made out of volcanic stones are very hospitable and willing for tourism.

CUSTOMS AND FOOD

Beans baked in floor furnace, stuffed vine leaves and stew are the most well-known dishes of the village. Grape molasses, koftur, pelver and batter puddings are still being prepared and offered for your pleasure. The tradition of village weddings still prevails and celebrations last for 5 days. If women don’t receive education, their average marriage age is 17 and average marriage age for men is around 19. 

EDUCATION

After a while later the proclamation of the republic, a primary school was founded in the village and a number of people continued their education to become lawyers, teachers, doctors and public officers. In the recent years it has been turned into an elementary school. It is still open to education after compulsory education has been increased to eight years. Students usually prefer Urgup for high school education and Kayseri, Nigde, Konya and Ankara for their university education.

ECONOMY

The climate of the village is typical of central Anatolia -hot and dry in summers, cold and snowy in winters. Apricot, grape, apple, pear and also potatoes are cultivated mostly. The agriculture of such food is the main source of income of the village. The altitude of the village is 1200 meters.

Towards the North, beginning from the end of the village’s borders; since the altitude is higher in Guneyce village, fruits like grape or apricot cannot be cultivated there. The village is located in the beginning point of the Cappadocian erosion.

Share taxi (Dolmusch): If you don’t have a car, share taxi service is regularly available from Urgup to Ayvali Village.
